Neath Schools 15 – 10 RGC South
(tries Angus Twigg, Josh Jones)
RGC South U15’s travelled to the historic Gnoll buoyed by their previous win against Aberavon, but well aware that this was going to be a far harder task. From the whistle it was obvious that both teams intended to run the ball as often as possible, with Neath playing a good off loading and RGC trying to attack the space.
Neath were first to score with a well worked try in the corner, but RGC did not buckle and came straight back at them. Fullback Tom Hill led a good counter attack, flanker Ianto Jones linked well to put Angus Twigg over. The game ebbed and flowed before Neath scored just before halftime.
RGC South really took the game to Neath at the start of the Second Half and were rewarded with a great individual try from Stand Off Josh Jones, who started his run from the halfway mark and beat several defenders before showing good pace to score the try.
With RGC in the ascendancy things were looking good, but with a few errors coming into their game and some tigerish defence from Neath, RGC couldn’t make the most of it. Neath took an opportunity and led 15-10 going into the final quarter. RGC South threw the kitchen sink at them, but Neath were not going to be denied and just held on to the end.
Although the result did not go their way, the effort all the boys put in was very encouraging. A couple of errors and Neath being a little more battle hardened was the difference.
